Powers:

Matt has no real superpowers, he is fully human. His magical aptitude is average, he isn't interested in learning magic but if he did his magic is electricity-elemental. His strengths come from intense training in martial arts. He was taught by Pauline Doomehart, who mixed together several fighting styles (and a few video game moves) to find something that worked for them. He is also an accomplished breakdancer. His reflexes have been refined over the years by intense video game allnigters, and much of his childhood was spent jumping around from one stupid adventure to another. He is trained to use several unconventional weapons, his favorite being a DualShock2 controller (lovingly named 'Martha') used as a flail and grappling hook. He is also bizarrely durable, able to take pummelings as well as his superpowered friends. This may be the result of his training, or perhaps sheer dumb luck. His resistance to dying also shows in an accquired resistance to toxins. In his childhood he spent a lot of time getting into kitchen cupboards and playing with the hazardous chemicals within, and apparently built up an immunity to poisons, including alcohol. He is also very intelligent (advanced placement physics and chemistry student) and can control unfamiliar alien technology through intuitive guesswork. He also speaks fluent French and Spanish.

Weaknesses:

Matt has no superpowers, which puts him at a disadvantage amongst his allies and enemies. However, this also means he has no unusual physical weaknesses. He is noticeably insecure about his appearance, although he pays no mind to peoples' opinions on his behavior he gets offended by remarks about his height and face. He is very short and often mistaken for a 12-year-old. In everyday life he functions acceptably, but he's psychologically unstable and unpredictable. Despite his intelligence he has frequent lapses of logic where he buys into ideas that are obviously ridiculous. He is completely desensitized to violence and psychologically addicted to sugar.

History:

Matt was born and raised in South Detroit, but his father is a science teacher from Quebec and his mother is a housecleaner from Mexico. Neither one is an official US citizen. He grew up in a trilingual household and somehow learned English, French, and Spanish together as some sort of creole. He was initially put into a kindergarten class for children learning English as a second language, where he learned to differentiate between the three languages. He was placed in a normal first grade class, where he became best friends with Tony Cook and Josh Connor.

Matt's involvement with superheroes began when he was fourteen. He went to go see a hobo living at the edge of town, expecting to see the kind of person who lives in boxcars and sings songs about prohibition. Instead he met a retired crimefighter living in solitude, waiting for a protege to teach. Pauline Doomehart, former leader of the Red Jacket Brigade, found Matt to be the student she was looking for, and took him in. Two years later he recruited Tony and Tony's friend Mistaire, forming a new Red Jacket Brigade.

Relationships: Matt gets along with his parents on a level that most teenagers would find disturbing. He takes after his father and the two have wacky discussions on science and pantaloons. His fairly normal mother tries hard to watch after them and thinks of Matt as a holy terror...but also her little angel. He sees Pauline Doomehart, his mentor, as a second mother and usually follows whatever orders she gives him. His greatest bond is with Josh, his best friend. Though the two have become more different from each other since reaching high school, they are still very close. They bicker like a married couple. He has an interest in Josh's cousin Jenny, who will later become his sidekick.
